Sit. Unlike teaching your pup to stay down, “sit” is the easiest command to teach your furry friend.

Two weeks is just barely enough time for the dog to adjust to the new routine and start understanding the commands. Still, even at this point, they are just becoming ready to practice their learned skill set in various environments (such as dog parks and around town).

There's no such thing as a dog too old to train and with reward based training methods, you can really enrich their life. It's a common misconception that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Modern dog training methods are suitable for canine companions at any stage of their life.

Training your pup starts with the week you bring them home, typically 8 weeks of age. At this age they are able to quickly grasp the commands to sit, stand, stay and come. The moment you bring your puppy home you essentially start house training.

Show your dog the toy or food. Run away a couple of paces then call your dog's name and say "come" in a friendly, exciting tone - getting down low can also encourage them to come back. As your dog comes to you, gently hold their collar and either feed them the treat or let them play with the toy.

The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) states: “In general, puppies can start socialization classes as early as 7-8 weeks of age.

For pet dogs, training once or twice a day, a couple of days a week in 5-15 minute training intervals is probably more than enough to achieve good results. If you take your dog to one hour training classes, make sure you give the dog several breaks during the class.

Lure them onto the dog bed or pet cot as you say “Place”. Once your puppy is in their designated “Place”, you'll ask them to “Sit” and then “Down” on their place. If they follow through with the entire routine, mark the correct behavior with “Good!” and reward your puppy with some food.

Learn the Basic Commands. Start simple with commands such as come, sit, lie down, and stay. These essentials will likely be used on a daily basis! Although many owners start with the sit command, consider beginning with the come command.

In general, the time varies. Usually, it takes 6 weeks to teach your dog the basics. However, long daily sessions take more than 4 weeks, whereas short, bi-weekly training sessions take 9 weeks. After that, you will get a trained dog.
