1892: Library grants public access to all stacks. 1901: “Travelling libraries” installed in schools, new building opened. 1902: Dana established the Picture Collection. 1938: New Jersey Collection officially established by Winser (collecting began 1920s).

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Public Library has a new director: Christian Zabriskie. Mayor Ras Baraka and the library board of trustees announced Zabriskie's appointment to the post on Wednesday.

The Newark Public Library (NPL) issues a library card at no charge to those who live in Newark. Applicants over the age of 14 must present identification, with proof of their stated address. Appropriate forms of identification include current: School identification card.

The Newark Public Library's Special Collections Division has many unique files on artists from 19th and 20th century. The files contain such items as: news clippings, articles from various art magazines and journals, brochures and flyers from exhibitions and events, pamphlets, and reproduced images.
