Academically successful undergraduate students who wish to take more than 18 credits can request to take over that limit by submitting a credit overload request to their academic dean's office.

Credits taken beyond 16 per semester are considered overload credits and must be paid for at the per-credit rate in your final semester. However, if you take fewer than 16 (but no fewer than 12) credits during one of your semesters, you can “underload” and balance out any overloads you may have incurred.

To take more than 18 credits you must submit a credit overload to the Undergraduate Academic Affairs office. Speak with your advisor prior to submitting the form (you will need their signature anyway!).

Mason considers transfer credit from institutions of higher education accredited by a Mason-recognized U.S. institutional accrediting agency or international equivalent. All course work and degrees earned at international institutions must be recognized by that country's Ministry of Education, or equivalent.

How do the grades from my transferred courses affect my GPA? No grades are transferred from your prior institution. You will receive credit for any courses accepted for transfer with a grade of "T", but the transferred courses will have no affect on your GPA.

TRANSFER OF CREDIT REQUIREMENTS: The credit must have been earned within six years prior to first enrollment as an admitted student in the specific certificate or degree program. A minimum grade of B (3.00) must have been earned. The course must be applicable toward a degree at the institution offering the course.
