Measurement of Disability Each item asks about how much difficulty the patient has had because of health problems in a specific functional domain over the past 30 days and is scored on a 5-point Likert scale: none = 0; mild = 1; moderate = 2; severe = 3; and extreme = 4.

The Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale-Parent Form (WFIRS-P) is a 50-item scale designed to evaluate the extent to which an individual's ability to function is impaired by any emotional or behavioural problems [2].

To break down the numerical system of the rating, the VA evaluates TBI at 0, 10, 40, 70, and 100 percent. They recognize that there are certain cases so severe that warrant a rating higher than 100%, such as when the veteran cannot work due to the injury. The VA would then have to consider unemployability.

Understanding Your VA Disability Rating for PTSD VA disability ratings range from 0% to 100%, but for PTSD claims, the standard ratings are 0%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 100%. These ratings are meant to capture the severity of your condition, and how much it affects your ability to work and take care of everyday life stuff.

The Disability Rating Scale (DRS) is primarily used to assess impairment, disability, and handicap of an individual. An impairment rating is based on the Glasgow Outcome Scale, such as "Eye Opening," "Communication Ability," and "Motor Response." Disability assesses the cognitive ability of the individual.

If the Veteran's TBI residuals qualify as “total” severity in any of the facets, then the veteran is entitled to a 100 percent disability rating. If the highest level of severity is a 3, then the disability rating will be 70 percent. If the highest level of severity is a 2, then 40 percent will be assigned.

A Veteran whose highest rating is a 3 in the neurobehavioral effects category because they have one or more behaviors that interfere with workplace or social interaction will receive a 70% disability rating for their TBI.
