Grade 4: Poor Quality Agricultural Land Land included within this grade suffers severe limitations that significantly restrict the range and/or yield of crops to be grown. This land is mainly suited to grass with occasion arable crops – the yields of which are variable.

4.3 Grade 3 – good to moderate quality agricultural land Land with moderate limitations that affect the choice of crops, timing and type of cultivation, harvesting or the level of yield. Where more demanding crops are grown yields are generally lower or more variable than on land in grades 1 and 2.

California, like every other state, offers property tax breaks for agricultural land. Specifically, farmers are able to take 20 to 75 percent off their property tax bill if they agree not to develop their land for ten years and do so with at least 100 acres.
