Example from "The Most Dangerous Game": Rainsford is a hunter on a hunting trip, but ends up becoming the hunted. Dramatic Irony- When the audience is aware of what is about to happen but the characters aren't.

The most obvious irony is when Rainsford the hunter becomes the hunted. In the beginning of the story, it is clear that Rainsford is not just a hunter, but a very accomplished and skilled hunter. He has been around the world, and he loves the sport. Moreover, he has little regard for animals.

What is Zaroff's main reason for preferring to hunt human beings rather than animals? There is no other big game on his island. He doesn't like to kill innocent creatures. He hates humanity and wants to take revenge against it.

Zaroff justifies hunting people because he is trapping ships and taking sailors. If he kills them, he believes that means they are weak and deserve to die. ... Because of their profession, class, and/ or race, they are thought by Zaroff to be inferior to him, meaning he can do what he wants with them. He is an aristocrat.

How do Rainsford and Whitney feel about hunting? Whitney loves it, but Rainsford thinks it is just cruel. Both men agree that it is acceptable for survival, but not for sport. Both men enjoy hunting as a sport, but because of their talent they do not take it too seriously.

Why is Rainsford's situation ironic, surprising? Rainsford finds himself in the position of the animals he hunts; the hunter is now the hunted.

What is ironic (the obvious irony and the unobvious) about the comment about Rainsford: "All he knew was that he was safe from his enemy, the sea"? *obvious irony: The sea is not as much of an enemy as Rainsford will find out when he meets Zaroff. *unobvious irony: At the end of the story, the sea saved his life.

The central theme of "The Most Dangerous Game" is murder. Its main characters, Sangor Rainsford and General Zaroff, are both hunters, and Rainsford justifies killing by claiming that animals can't feel. This logic fails, however, when Zaroff starts hunting humans.
