Minors between the ages of fourteen and eighteen years of age who drop out of school, or who accumulate 15 unexcused absences in any 90-calendar-day period, will not be issued a learner's permit or will have their driving privilege suspended by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

Code Yellow is called when there is a potential threat. An example would be a tornado has been sighted, but not in our immediate area and the situation is being monitored. A Code Red is called when there is an imminent danger, such as a gunman on campus.

REVOCATION OF VOLUNTARY TRANSFER The voluntary transfer of a student from one school to another, pursuant to SBSC Policy 5120, may be revoked and the student returned to his/her zoned school of attendance if tardiness, unexcused absences or behavior/discipline problems develop at the receiving school.

A student who accumulates 15 or more unexcused absences within 90 days with or without the knowledge or consent of the student's parent shall be classified as a habitual truant. If a student becomes a habitual truant, the school administration shall refer matters to the Legal Services Department.

ATTENDANCE ALERT TO PARENTS: When a student accumulates ten unexcused absences (not including suspensions) within a 90 calendar day period, a letter shall be sent to the parent or guardian. Excerpt from Florida Statute 1003 .

The school must forward the truant's name to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, which will then suspend (or deny an application for) the student's driver's license or learner's permit.

How is a truant defined? Florida law defines "habitual truant" as a student who has 15 or more unexcused absences within 90 calendar days with or without the knowledge or consent of the student's parent or guardian, and who is subject to compulsory school attendance.
