A contestant may have documentation from a physician only indicating a specific condition such as a birthmark or other non-communicable skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, and that documentation is valid for the duration of the season.

In general, ringworm is not contagious about 24-48 hours after topical medication treatment. However, treatment protocols usually require about one to two weeks of treatment. If treatment is interrupted or not completed, it is possible to have ringworm reoccur.

As a sports medicine doctor, we often get the job of doing skin checks for wrestling meets along with the athletic trainer. This means checking the skin all over for any signs of infection or fungus that could easily be transmitted to other wrestlers and equipment.

Some common types of skin infections found in wrestling include ring worm, herpes simplex, staphylococcus infection (staph infection), and impetigo. The most common infection found in wrestling is Tinea Corporis, also know as ring worm.

If ring worm is suspected it is very important to begin treatment immediately. Treatments include topical antifungal creams or oral antifungal medication. Treatment should be applied twice daily for 1-4 weeks. Athletes may return to competition after 3 days of topical treatment use2.

Check the skin daily throughout the season. Report any suspicious skin lesions to your certified athletic trainer, coach, or primary care physician. Clean and wipe all mats before and after each practice. ... Avoid sharing items such as towels, razors, athletic equipment, water bottles, and hair clippers.

You know that ringworm is a fungal infection. It has a fancy medical name, tinea corporis. And so, when we treat these for 4 days or so, then these kids can get back to wrestling and they're not contagious anymore. But, treating the whole course is about 10 days of treatment for that fungal infection.

To avoid re-infecting yourself with infected items, you should wash clothes, towels, and bedding that you use while you have ringworm. Be sure to wash everything in hot, soapy water. If you have athlete's foot, you'll want to toss all shoes and other footwear that you wore before you started treatment.

Tinea corporis - also known as Ring worm. Herpes simplex. Impetigo. Staphylococcus aureus - also known as staph infection/MRSA.

There is no need to keep your child home from school, but the rash should be covered by clothing or a dressing to avoid spreading ringworm to others. Avoid being barefoot in public showers; public swimming pools can be used once treatment has been started. Avoid sharing towels.
