Obsessive-Compulsive and related disorders include obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), body dysmorphic disorder, hoarding disorder, trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder), and excoriation (skin-picking) disorder.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a disorder in which people have recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions) that make them feel driven to do something repetitively (compulsions).

Scoring and interpretation. Each item on the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R) can be scored on a 5 point scale from 0 to 4. If we add up the scores on all the items, we get a total score, which can range from 0 (if the person rated all 18 items as 0) to 72 (if the person rated all 18 items as 4).

The National Institute of Mental Health-Global Obsessive Compulsive Scale (NIMH-GOCS) is a single-item rating to assess overall OCD severity on a scale from 1 (minimal symptoms) to 15 (very severe).

The Obsessive Compulsive Inventory (OCI) (Appendix 3) is a 42-item questionnaire comprising of 7 subscales; Washing, checking, doubting, ordering, obsessing (i.e. having obsessional thoughts), hoarding, and Mental Neutralising. It is important to only use the 'Distress' ratings for the OCI.
