To obtain a permit, construction plans, including a site plan, must be prepared and submitted electronically to the Pima County Building and Site Development Division, preferably online. At a minimum, these plans must indicate the location of the proposed improvements and the type of construction.

All residential detached accessory structures (e.g. Storage Sheds) must have a site plan review for Zoning Compliance. Additionally, anything over 200 square feet requires a building permit with a structural engineered design.

Section 18.14. 040C3 of the Pima County Zoning Code requires a 40 foot minimum setback.

Setbacks are measured from the back of the curb within the adjacent public rights-of-way and must be a minimum of 14 feet from back of curb.

All detached accessory structures in the side and rear yard, not used for sleeping or living purposes, are to maintain a minimum setback of three feet from property lines. Swimming pools are to maintain a minimum setback of three feet from exterior property lines.

"R-2" RESIDENCE ZONE. This zone provides for medium density, single-family and multifamily, residential development, together with schools, parks, and other public services necessary for an urban residential environment.

In Pima County, lot split approval from the Minor Land Division may be required if the parcel is residential, under 10 acres and not in a recorded subdivision. The number for Minor Land Division is 520-724-9512.
