Each game counts separately in the standings, so all three games will be played regardless of the outcome of the first two. Rally scoring is used, meaning that a point is awarded after each rally. All matches have an allotted amount of time of one hour to play all three games.

A volleyball match typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes (about 20 minutes per game). The clock is not a factor; play continues until one team has won three games. The match begins with a serve by the player in the back of the court.

Although it can vary, in most cases girls have their volleyball seasons in the fall, from late August until the end of October and boys have theirs in the spring, from March till May. Their typical season will span between 10 to 12 weeks of competition.

Tournaments will either run 8am-2pm or 2pm-8pm (approximately 6 hours long). Within each age group, teams are grouped into 8-team pools. At each tournament, each division will compete in a modified 8-team bracket. Each team will play a minimum of three matches per tournament.

A solid Pre-Game meal: Eat several hours before game time Stick with lean meats, vegetables and carbohydrates like bread, pasta and fruit. Stay away from foods with high processed sugar and any new foods you have not tried before on game days. The most important meal of the day is your pre-game meal.

Middle School is usually about 8 10 weeks plus extra for end of season tournaments. High School is usually 8 10 weeks plus extra for end of season tournaments. Most USA Volleyball Club seasons are about 6 months plus an extra 2 months if teams are playing in Nationals.

Varsity matches All matches will be a three (3) out of five (5) or two (2) out of three (3) match formats and will use a rally scoring system. In a three (3) out of five (5) match format, the first four sets score will go to twenty-five (25) points with no cap and a team must win by two (2) points.
