If you are on a low income, you may be able to get a grant to pay for your child's school uniform.

Families will be eligible for a Clothing Grant only if in receipt of one of the following: Working Tax Credit and/or Child Tax Credit with an annual income of £16,105 or less. Universal Credit with monthly earned income of not more than £1342.

If you're on a low income, you might be able to get help with some of the costs of sending your child to school, including school meals, transport and uniform. You're probably on a low income if you get benefits such as tax credits or Employment and Support Allowance.

To qualify, you must be a Hackney resident and getting one of the benefits below: Income support. Income-based jobseeker's allowance. Child tax credit, and getting no more than £16,190 a year.

The scheme is open from June 1 to September 30 each year. Payments of the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance for 2020 were paid in July. Many have received the payment automatically however those who did not receive any money can apply online at welfare.ie.

Check if your local council provides help with the cost of school uniform and PE kit. If your council does not offer help, ask your child's school directly.
