The Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) in the Colorado Constitution limits the amount of revenue the state may retain and spend in each state fiscal year. Any revenue collected above this limit must be refunded to taxpayers unless voters authorize the state to retain it.

Full-year Colorado residents, who were 18 or older as of January 1, 2022, are eligible for the state sales tax refund. To claim the state sales tax refund, your return must be postmarked by April 18, 2023.

Full-year Colorado residents, who were 18 or older as of January 1, 2022, are eligible for the state sales tax refund. To claim the state sales tax refund, your return must be postmarked by April 18, 2023. Use the modified AGI amount listed on line 32, and your filing status, to determine the claim amount.

This comes after weeks of confusion between state and federal agencies with the IRS even urging Coloradans to hold off on filing their taxes. The governor's office released a statement Friday evening saying all of that TABOR refund will stay in Coloradans' pockets and none of it will go to the government.

DENVER - Today, the Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) announced that it does not believe TABOR refunds like last year's Colorado Cashback refund, should be subject to federal income tax.

Yes, the TABOR refunds became the Colorado Cash Back checks of 2022, when individuals received $750 and couples received $1,500.

Who is eligible for this refund? Individuals who were 18 years old before Dec. 31, 2021, were a Colorado resident for the entire 2021 income tax year and filed a state income tax return for 2021 qualify for the TABOR refund.

DENVER (KKTV) - The IRS announced on Friday Coloradans will not have to pay federal income tax for their TABOR refunds.

CDOR says about 56,000 checks went to the wrong address and were returned to the department. A CDOR spokesperson said taxpayers who have yet to receive their TABOR refund should call 303-951-4996 to see the status of their check. So far, the state has received only five reports of fraud or stolen checks.
