Burial in a national cemetery is open to all members of the armed forces who have met a minimum active duty service requirement and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.

Can You Bury a Body at Home? You can bury a body on private property, but you'll have to establish a family cemetery first. Maine law allows a family burial ground to be up to 1/4 acre in size, and it must be enclosed by a fence or other boundary markers.

Basic eligibility for burial in a Maine Veterans Cemetery exists if you are an honorably discharged veteran, a twenty year National Guard or Reservist, the spouse of a veteran or the eligible next of kin.

There are two Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemeteries, located in Glennville and Milledgeville, open for interment of qualified veterans and dependents.

Many landowners elect to establish a burial ground on their property for the purpose of interring family members. Although a license to do so is not needed, such a family burial ground does have to be recorded with the property deed.
