Maxwell's equations are a set of four equations that describe the behavior of electric and magnetic fields and how they relate to each other. Ultimately they demonstrate that electric and magnetic fields are two manifestations of the same phenomenon.

Maxwell equations mainly consist of a set of four laws such as Gauss's electric field law, Gauss's magnetic field law, Faraday's law, Ampere Maxwell law.

The four Maxwell equations, corresponding to the four statements above, are: (1) div D = ρ, (2) div B = 0, (3) curl E = -dB/dt, and (4) curl H = dD/dt + J. This article was most recently revised and updated by Erik Gregersen.

Maxwell calculated that electromagnetic waves would propagate at a speed given by the equation c=1√μ0ϵ0. When the values for μ0 and ϵ0 are entered into the equation for c, we find that c=1√(8.85×10−12C2N⋅m2)(4π×10−7T⋅mA)=3.00×108m/s, which is the speed of light.

Maxwell's First equation is derived from Gauss Law of Electricity, stating that: “A closed surface integral of electric flux density is always equal to charge enclosed over that surface.” A static electric field always points outwards for a positive charge, and it points inwards for a negative charge.

The Maxwell equations are the fundamental equations of electromagnetism, which combines Gauss's law of electricity, Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, Gauss's law of magnetism and Ampere's law of current in a conductor.
