ing to the U.S. Census Bureau, Byron Center has a total area of 5.10 square miles (13.21 km2), of which 5.08 square miles (13.16 km2) is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 km2) (0.39%) is water.

Founded in 1824, Byron received its first postmaster in 1837. One of the only towns in the county, Byron was the last stop on a stagecoach run from Detroit that ran west along what is now Rose Center road and Silver Lake road. The Village of Byron was incorporated in 1873.

Samuel W. Dexter, of Dexter, Michigan, made the first purchase of land here in July 1824. Four men known as the Byron Company bought this land in 1836 and platted the village the next year. Named after the British poet Lord Byron, in the 1840s the town was one of the largest in the county.

The Byron Center train depot, pictured in an undated photo, was built in 1869 and stood behind where McDonald's and Pete's Tavern are now located.

The Byron Center Museum and Historical Society operates a museum and a genealogy research room in the Historic Town Hall built in 1876. The society was organized to preserve, protect the history and heritage of Byron Township. The building is 137 years old!
