Airworthiness Directive (AD) A document issued or adopted by the Agency which mandates actions to be performed on an aircraft to restore an acceptable level of safety, when evidence shows that the safety level of this aircraft may otherwise be compromised.

The FAA issues ADs whenever there is an unsafe condition with an aircraft, aircraft engine, propeller, or appliance. The three types of ADs are: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), followed by a Final Rule. Final Rule; Request for Comments.

The FAA issues an AD addressing a product when we find that: An unsafe condition exists in a product; and, The condition is likely to exist or develop in other products of the same type design.

There are two different classifications of FAA airworthiness certificates: Standard Airworthiness Certificate, and Special Airworthiness Certificate.

Airworthiness Directive Compliance: An aircraft cannot overfly an AD. Usually require an inspection or conditions and limitations you must comply with. Operations specifications give some operators authority to operate including a provision that allow them to fly their aircraft to a destination to do that work.

Airworthiness Directives (ADs) are issued by the FAA when an unsafe condition exists in a type-certificated product, and that condition is likely to exist in other products of the same type design.

Airworthiness Directives ( ADs ) are legally enforceable rules issued by the FAA in ance with 14 CFR part 39 to correct an unsafe condition in a product. 14 CFR part 39 defines a product as an aircraft, aircraft engine, propeller, or appliance.

We issue three types of ADs: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking ( NPRM ), followed by a Final Rule. Final Rule; Request for Comments. Emergency ADs.
