How to fill out the Sewage Soil Profile Log online

Filling out the Sewage Soil Profile Log is essential for documenting the characteristics of soil in relation to private sewage treatment systems. This guide provides a clear, step-by-step approach to ensure accurate completion of the form online.

Follow the steps to fill out the Sewage Soil Profile Log online effectively.

  1. Click ‘Get Form’ button to access the Sewage Soil Profile Log and open it in the designated online editor.
  2. Begin by entering the owner name or job ID at the top of the form. Ensure that this information is accurate, as it will be crucial for identification purposes.
  3. In the legal land location section, fill in the LSD (Legal Subdivision) details including 1/4, Section, Township, and Range. This information helps in pinpointing the exact location of the soil profile.
  4. Provide the test pit GPS coordinates, which should consist of Northing and Easting values for enhanced precision regarding the soil testing location.
  5. Document the overall site slope percentage and slope position of the test pit. This data is essential for assessing water movement and soil stability.
  6. Record any vegetation notes observed at the site, as these may impact the soil profile and treatment system.
  7. Indicate the test hole number to keep track of different sample locations within the site.
  8. Detail the soil characteristics by entering information such as soil subgroup, depth, texture, parent material, color, gleying, mottling, depth to groundwater, and any restricting soil layer characteristics observed.
  9. Assess the depth to seasonally saturated soil and other restrictive layers. Indicate these depths accurately to inform system design.
  10. Discuss site topography and document critical dimensions, including the depth to a highly permeable layer limiting the system design.
  11. Fill in key soil characteristics that apply to the system design and effluent loading, as these are vital for regulatory compliance.
  12. Capture weather condition notes and any additional comments regarding soil observations, such as root depth and plant abundance.
  13. Enter laboratory sample specifics, including depth and characteristics such as drainage, structure, and consistency.
  14. Ensure that all fields are thoroughly completed, then proceed to save your changes. You can download, print, or share the completed form as necessary.

Borehole logging systems are used to make measurements inside boreholes (or drill holes) with borehole probes containing sensors and instrumentation, which transmit the data via a cable, to recording instruments on the surface.

Soil boring, also called geotechnical boring, is a technique used to investigate and determine soil composition and conditions at a site where construction is planned.

Most soil profiles have a surface layer of organic material and two or three layers of mineral materials. These are called the horizons of a typical soil profile. The uppermost horizon is called the “organic” horizon or “O” horizon.

The boring log is the basic record of almost every geotechnical exploration and provides a detailed record of the work performed and the findings of the investigation. The field log should be written or printed legibly, and should be kept as clean as is practical.

The open pit method Open test pits are the only means available actually to see and be able to examine a soil profile in its natural state. They may be dug by hand or by special excavating equipment such as a trench digger. If necessary, you may obtain undisturbed samples from selected horizons of an open pit.

Looking at the bore log shown in Figure 1, the Blow Counts (Field Value) is shown in the fifth column from the left.. This is a strict reading of the number of drops. The readings, such as (5-5-6) are how many drops it takes for each successive 6” depth increment. The first 6” is ignored and the blows per foot are 11.

Soil log means a detailed description of soil characteristics providing information on the soil's capacity to act as an acceptable treatment and dispersal medium for sewage.

A reading of 7 is neutral; crops typically grow best when pH is between 6 (slightly acidic) and 7.5 (slightly alkaline). Results of soil pH are reported on a logarithmic scale; a soil with a pH of 6 is 10 times more acidic than a soil with a pH of 7, and a pH of 5 is 100 times more acidic than a pH of 7.
