Yes, most industries would describe 600 DPI as high-resolution. If an image has a resolution of 600 DPI, the printer will produce twice the standard number of dots per inch.

In many cases, the best resolution for printing is 300 PPI. At 300 pixels per inch (which roughly translates to 300 DPI, or dots per inch, on a printing press), an image will appear sharp and crisp. These are considered to be high resolution, or high-res, images.

The higher resolution, the sharper the image will be. At Printing for Less, we recommend a resolution of 300 DPI (dots per inch) for crisp, clear results. Lower resolution images appear fuzzy, jagged and blurry.

At 300 PPI, an image will appear sharp and crisp. This is considered to be high resolution or high-res. Images below 200 PPI are considered low resolution or low-res. Low-res images will appear pixelated and blurred after printing even though they might look perfect on your computer screen.

Hi res photos are generally considered to be anything that has a DPI/PPI of 300 or higher. While this isn't an exact science, 300 DPI is generally used in print for quality images.

Excellent quality photo prints require a resolution of at least 300 dpi (dots per inch). Therefore, an image file should ideally measure at least 1200 pixels by 1800 pixels to print an excellent quality 4x6 print. This is because 4 inches x 300 dpi = 1200 pixels and 6 inches x 300 dpi = 1800 pixels.

The best way to get high-resolution images is by using the right camera for the job. But when that's not an option — or you're looking to improve older digital photos — Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom can help. Experiment with Super Resolution and resampling to see how far you can push your image quality.

A photo may be flagged as low-resolution when downloaded from a website, taken on a phone or camera with the photo size set too small, or it's a proof photo from a professional photographer. If you choose to continue placing an order with a low-resolution image, your final printed product may be pixelated or blurry.
