Water Wells (Domestic/Irrigation) If you are planning on building a home in a rural location with no access to public drinking water, you will have to drill a well on your property. Water well permits may only be applied for by a licensed well driller (see the following procedure).

There are regulations regarding well setbacks and proximity to septic systems. New Hampshire requires a 75-foot setback from property boundaries and septic systems for homes with up to five bedrooms. This includes tanks and leach fields. Homeowners must also keep records of work done on private wells.

Basic Well Construction. Constructing a new well or decommissioning an out of service well is a team effort. Well owners need to obtain permits from local environmental health agencies or local water districts before construction, modification, or destruction takes place.

§ 51.38 LICENSING REQUIRED. Wells may only be drilled and installed by licensed water well drillers and water well pump installers as provided by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, as those rules and regulations exist and as they may be amended. § 51.99 PENALTY.

The primary source of water for 500,000 residents of the Contra Costa Water District in central and eastern Contra Costa County is the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Originating from rivers within the Sierra, the water flows into the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers, eventually finding its way into the Delta.

A permit from the Environmental Health Division is required to construct, reconstruct or destroy a well within Contra Costa County. Wells include water wells, monitoring wells, cathodic protection wells and soil borings.

Drilling a well without obtaining the required permits can have severe legal consequences in California. Violating the well drilling regulations is considered a misdemeanor, punishable by fines, penalties, and potential legal actions.

Types of wells Dug wells have a large diameter, are shallow (approximately 10 to 30 feet deep) and are not cased continuously. Driven wells are constructed by driving pipe into the ground. Driven wells are cased continuously and shallow (approximately 30 to 50 feet deep).
