CPI training programs provide strategies and techniques for all levels of health care professionals, from doctors and nurses to in-take coordinators.

#CWSS stands for the core philosophy and values at the heart of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training program: Care, Welfare, Safety, and SecuritySM.

The IU offers a 10-hour, initial training course which provides participants with a one-year certification in non-violent crisis intervention. In order to maintain certification, participants must partake in a 3-hour refresher course before their annual expiration date.

Registrants will need a writing utensil and for those taking an Initial CPI Class, they should also bring a packed lunch. What should I wear to a CPI class? Registrants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes. A portion of the class will be hands on and will require you to be as comfortable as possible.

The emphasis is on prevention—and on using physical restraint only as a last resort. The training teaches you the risks of restraint, how to identify true last-resort situations, and how to use nonharmful holding skills only when a person presents an immediate physical danger to self or others.

Over the course of 6 – 12 hours (depending upon the desired level) this training dives into crisis in the moment looking a signs of crisis escalation and staff response that provides care, welfare, safety, and security for everyone involved.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training is perfect for primary caregivers, educators and human service professionals who directly intervene in crisis situations, teaching staff de-escalation techniques as well as restrictive and nonrestrictive interventions. Available as blended learning.
