How often do Civil Air Patrol cadets meet?

Most squadrons meet weekly for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, and offer special activities on the weekends and during the summer. You can find the meeting day and time of your local squadron by using the online unit locator.

As a CAP cadet, you will participate in a year-round program where you fly, learn to lead, hike, camp, get in shape and push yourself to new limits. The program transforms youth into dynamic citizens and aerospace leaders through a curriculum that focuses on four elements: leadership, aerospace, fitness and character.

Every CAP cadet under age 18 is eligible for five flights in a powered aircraft (usually a single-engine Cessna), five flights in a glider aircraft, and an unlimited number of backseat flights when conditions allow. Orientation flights are always free to cadets.

Cadet Airman Basic (C/AB) is the beginner level grade of Civil Air Patrol (CAP) cadets and of all phases.

CAP membership does not equate to membership in the military. CAP is a private, non-profit humanitarian organization, which is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

CAP does allow cadets to handle the controls while aloft. Learning how planes fly is the main goal of the program. However, the pilot remains in command at all times, and only the pilot will fly the airplane during takeoff, landing, and other critical moments of the flight.

A: No, except for special situations authorized by Civil Air Patrol. CAP Uniforms are not to be worn except for CAP meetings and approved activities. Q: What is CAP Sabbath/Sunday?

The time commitment required is dependent upon your individual situation and motivation. Most CAP squadrons meet an average of two hours each week, with a special/training activity one to two weekends a month.
