The work of CPS (Child Protective Services) is to investigate child abuse and neglect. Because of that, a CPS case conviction for child abuse or neglect will stay on your record for ten years after the youngest child in the report turns eighteen. Some records are permanent.

Records related to the abuse or neglect of minors generated by DCFS and the Juvenile Court are confidential. Parents, current and former foster youth, their attorneys, and others who are eligible may request copies of case records by contacting the court with the form below.

Mandated reporters are required to give their names when making a report. However, the reporter's identity is kept confidential. Reports of suspected child abuse are also confidential. Mandated reporters have immunity from state criminal or civil liability for reporting as required.

Public Records Act. The Public has a right to inspect and/or obtain copies of public records maintained by state and local agencies pursuant to the California Public Records Act (PRA).

Child Care: If you are seeking inspection reports for regulated child care programs, you can access this information yourself at childcaresearch.ohio.gov. Just enter the program name and then select "Search." Records are kept online for three years.
