Vessels of five net tons or more used in fishing activities on navigable waters of the U.S. or in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), or used in coastwise trade must be documented unless the vessel is exempt from documentation.

A documented vessel must be registered in Florida, if used on Florida waters for longer than 90 days. The registration number will be the official federal documentation number and a decal will also be issued. The decal must be affixed to a window or the windshield on the port side of the vessel.

What is a USCG Certificate of Documentation? A USCG Certificate of Documentation establishes the ownership and nationality of a vessel. Recreational vessels over five net tons have the option to document their vessel with the U.S. Coast Guard and obtain a Certificate of Documentation.

Your US Coast Guard Certificate of Documentation (COD) must be renewed within 30 days of expiration. If your Documentation has been expired for more than 30 days, Reinstatement is required.

YOU MAY ALSO CONTACT OUR OFFICE AT: 800-799-8362 OR BY MAIL AT U. S. COAST GUARD, NATIONAL VESSEL DOCUMENTATION CENTER, 792 TJ JACKSON DRIVE, FALLING WATERS, WV 25419. NOTE: FILING THIS APPLICATION DOES NOT ENTITLE A VESSEL TO DOCUMENTATION OR TO ANY CHANGES SOUGHT ON A CERTIFICATE OF DOCUMENTATION.

https://unitedstatesvessel.us/abstract-of-title/ Additionally, any member of the public can request a Certified Copy of the Certificate of Documentation for any US Coast Guard Documented Vessel. This will provide the Managing Owner name and address, along with pertinent vessel endorsement information.

What is Documentation? Documentation is a form of registration through the US Coast Guard. This is a title for the vessel on the national (federal) level, as opposed to state titling. The Coast Guard's National Vessel Documentation Center grants Certificates of Documentation to eligible vessels.

A documented vessel is one that is registered by the Federal Government through the U. S. Coast Guard, rather than titled and numbered by a state. Pleasure vessels of 5 net tons and over (26 feet in length and up) may be documented, and commercial vessels 5 net tons and over must be documented.
