The McDonnell Douglas KC-10 Extender is an American tanker aircraft operated by the United States Air Force (USAF). A military version of the three-engine DC-10 airliner, the KC-10 was developed from the Advanced Tanker Cargo Aircraft Program.

With 662 produced, the McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30 is the definitive model of the DC-9 series, one of the most successful airliner families ever. Noted for its spacious and luxurious cabin, this 140 foot long aircraft can comfortably service 115 passengers at a cruise speed of almost 500 mph.

The Navy is set to replace its fleet of C-9 Skytrains with the C-40 Clipper.

The DC-9 series features a "pointed" tail cone, while the MD-80 series aircraft have what appears to be a "flat" tail cone. The MD-90 has larger engines than the MD-80 Series. The Boeing 717 has engines which are longer in length than the MD-90.

The C-9B Skytrain is a military version of the McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32 airliner. Modified with upper cargo doors, the C-9 provides unique logistics capabilities, particularly airlift personnel to and from training sites and the movement of naval personnel to support ship deployments.

An additional ten more new and ten used DC-9s were purchased and converted to C-9B for the Navy. The last C-9B to fly for the Navy was retired on 28 June 2014. Many of the Navy's C-9Bs had a higher maximum gross take-off weight of 110,000 lb (50,000 kg).
