File and Pay Tax Online Effective July 1, 2022, Prince William County will begin levying a tax on the purchase of prepared food and beverages. The Food and Beverage tax is 4% of the total cost of food and beverages sold by restaurants and other businesses that meet the definition of restaurants.

The City of Manassas imposes a 4% tax on every meal prepared, served, sold, or delivered in the city by a restaurant or caterer.

Effective July 1, 2022, any business where food and/or beverages are prepared and served to customers must remit a 4% food and beverage tax to the County.

WHAT IS THE FOOD AND BEVERAGE TAX? The food and beverage tax is a four percent (4%) tax levied on food and beverages sold by restaurants as the term, restaurant, is defined in the Code of Virginia §35.1-1.

Meals Tax is a 4% tax that must be collected by every business that sells prepared foods. Registration forms must be submitted to the Commissioner of Revenue and payments must be made to the Treasurer's Office on or before the 20th of each month.
