Among 12th grade students, the past 30-day prevalence of nearly 21% for nicotine vaping was below alcohol use at 28% but similar to cannabis at 20%. The results come from the Monitoring the Future study, conducted annually by a team of professors at the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research.

To promote healthier campuses, the University of Michigan will prohibit the use of all tobacco products on Nov. 17, 2022. The Tobacco-Free University Premises policy (SPG 601.04) will include all university-owned and -operated buildings, facilities and vehicles on U-M's campuses in Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint.

In ance with the Smoke-Free Campus Act (110 ILCS 64 et seq.), the Smoke-Free Illinois Act (410 ILCS 82 et seq.), and the School Code Tobacco Prohibition (105 ILCS 510-20.5b), smoking and tobacco use is prohibited on campus.

There are now at least 2,611 100% smokefree campus sites. Of these, 2,187 are 100% tobacco-free, 2,260 prohibit e-cigarette use, 1,240 prohibit hookah use, 600 prohibit smoking/vaping marijuana, and 631 explicitly include personal vehicles on campus in the policy protections.

Tobacco use is prohibited in all University buildings, facilities, grounds, and University-owned vehicles, as they are considered property of the University and under the authority of the Board of Regents of the University, except as indicated below.
