NOTE: Students are restricted to 15 credits until the initial course enrollment period has ended. For spring enrollment in fall classes, students must wait until early August and the end of Summer Orientation to add more than 15 credits.

To meet the World Language Requirement, transfer students must complete a sequence of courses through the intermediate level (usually 2020) in a language taught at UVA Students may also be tested in a language not taught at the University by obtaining a referral from Dean Ozment.

Generally, a student is part-time when they are taking somewhere between 6 and 11 credits, or 2 to 3 classes per term. On the other hand, full-time is a minimum of 12 credits, or about 4 classes per term.

Non-transfer students are limited to earning a maximum of 24 credits using the Credit/No Credit (CR/NC) grading option (learn more about the CR/NC grading option.) Second-year transfer students are limited to a maximum of 18 CR/NC credits. Third-year transfer students are limited to a maximum of 12 CR/NC credits.

The appeal of a grade from a course offered during a student's final term before graduation must be appealed before graduation. Please send your full written appeal to askthecollege@virginia.edu AFTER you have tried to resolve the situation with the instructor and the Department Chair.

A student enrolled in 12 credits or more during any fall, spring or summer semester is classified as full time. A student enrolled in 11 credits or less during any semester is classified as part time. Both full-time and part-time students may seek degrees at VCU.

Students who wish to request permission to enroll in more than 17 credit hours in a semester should complete a Credit Hour Overload Request. Students may request permission to enroll in up to 21 credit hours; enrollment in more than 21 credit hours in a semester is not permitted.

If a course is failed and repeated, both courses and grades appear on the transcript, the repeated course with a passing grade counts toward the 120 credits, and both courses are computed in the grade point average.
