The early decision application is a binding contract where, by signing the agreement, a student is committing to enroll at a first-choice institution if accepted and then withdraw all applications to other schools. Not only does the student sign the agreement, her parents and school counselor do as well.

The student must read and sign the agreement from within his/her Common App account. He/she must then notify the counselor that he/she is applying ED. 2. The counselor must read and sign the agreement from within his/her recommendation account (if the counselor has agreed to complete recommendations online).

Unlike traditional Early Decision (ED 1) programs with deadlines in October or November, Early Decision 2 (ED2) allows students to wait until later in the admissions cycle to claim their allegiance to a particular school.

You, the applicant, must read and sign the agreement from within your Common App account. You must then notify your counselor that you are applying ED. Go to the Recommenders and FERPA section to read and sign the ED agreement, then save the page.

First, with a few exceptions (and Vanderbilt is at the top of this list of exceptions), ED2 programs are often smaller and slightly less competitive applicant pools.

Unlike traditional Early Decision (ED 1) programs with deadlines in October or November, Early Decision 2 (ED2) allows students to wait until later in the admissions cycle to claim their allegiance to a particular school.

The greatest advantage for students applying ED II is that it can improve their odds of admission. Applying ED or ED II won't help you get into a school that you're not qualified to attend, but it can put you ahead of the hundreds – or thousands – of regular decision applicants with similar credentials.

On the other hand, it is possible for you to submit an application to one ED I school and one ED II school. You are not only permitted but encouraged, to apply to EA schools in addition to your ED schools, provided that the policies of your EA school do not expressly prohibit you from doing so.
