Eligibility. You accrue paid sick time off if you are appointed to work at least 20 hours per week for at least 4.5 months. Taking a Semester (or more) Off from UT If you decide to take a break from attending classes at the University and make this decision before you register, you notify the University of your decision by not registering for classes. You can elect to return to the University in a subsequent semester.

Wellness Time Off supports the overall well-being of leave-eligible university employees. Eligible employees have access to a maximum of eight (8) hours of wellness time off each fiscal year, which is prorated based on scheduled weekly hours for part-time employees.

This is automatically granted, but you must submit the necessary form with both your signature and the Graduate Advisor's signature by the day before classes start in the semester for which you are taking leave.

Who is covered? Any employee who works in Austin for at least 80 hours per calendar year is entitled to receive paid sick leave and their employer must meet the requirements of the ordinance.

No Texas or federal law requires employers to make payouts of accrued but unused paid leave, although in rare instances, usually involving express contracts, some courts have required such payments to former employees. That is a matter left to employers to specify in their company policies.

Eligibility for Sick Leave Sick leave is available to UT System employees who are scheduled to work a minimum of 20 hours per week for at least 4.5 continuous months in a position that does not require student status as a condition of employment.

Full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of eight hours per month. Part-time employees accrue sick leave at a proportionate rate. As long as an employee is in a paid status during any part of a month, the employee shall earn his/her full sick-leave accrual for that month.
