The Summary of Deposits (SOD) is the annual survey of branch office deposits as of June 30 for all FDIC-insured institutions, including insured U.S. branches of foreign banks. All institutions with branch offices are required to submit the survey; institutions with only a main office are exempt.

The standard deposit insurance coverage limit is $250,000 per depositor, per FDIC-insured bank, per ownership category. Deposits held in different ownership categories are separately insured, up to at least $250,000, even if held at the same bank.

Bank deposits are the primary means by which people store their money, mainly in savings accounts, checking accounts, and money market accounts. Bank deposits are a way to safely keep money with the ability to access it at any time in a conveniently.

Types of Deposits On the basis of purpose they serve, bank deposit accounts may be classified as follows: Savings Bank Account. Current Deposit Account. Fixed Deposit Account.

The FDIC protects depositors of insured banks located in the United States against the loss of their deposits if an insured bank fails. Any person or entity can have FDIC insurance coverage in an insured bank. A person does not have to be a U.S. citizen or resident to have his or her deposits insured by the FDIC.

The Bank Secrecy Act is officially called the Currency and Foreign Transactions Reporting Act, started in 1970. It states that banks must report any deposits (and withdrawals, for that matter) that they receive over $10,000 to the Internal Revenue Service. For this, they'll fill out IRS Form 8300.

This is their only account at this IDI and it is held as a “joint account with right of survivorship.” While they are both alive, they are fully insured for up to $500,000 under the joint account category.

The only way one can deposit $100 million in cash with insurance is to open several accounts to maintain the regulation given by FDIC on the maximum insurance amount. FDIC offers separate insurance coverage for money deposited by individuals in the various classification of legal ownership.
