UNUSED SMARTBENEFITS® Once SmartBenefits® are allocated to the employee's SmartBenefits® account, such funds are non-refundable and never expire as long as the fare technology possessed by the employee is still accepted for use by WMATA to pay fares.

Please note: If your SmarTrip has not been used in over a year the remaining balance will not appear on your account but can be checked at a Fare Vending Machine.

SmartBenefits allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars from your paycheck and apply it to your WMATA SmarTrip card to pay for work-related commuting expenses including Metrorail, Metrobus, and Metro parking.
