This is an entry-level qualification for those who want to enter the field of Education, Training and Development, specifically within the sub-field of Early Childhood Development (ECD). Many of those who will seek this qualification are already practising within the field, but without formal recognition.

The N4 Certificate is on an NQF level 05. This is one level above a Matric Certificate (NQF level 04).

What Is An NQF Level 4 Equivalent? The short answer is that an NQF Level 4 Equivalent, also known as a National Vocational Certificate, is equivalent to a National Senior Certificate or Matric Certificate. They have the same equivalence and can both be used to apply for further studies.

The Higher Certificate provides access to a higher education for many experienced and skilled Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners and trainers who do not have a recognised qualification.

The placement will require 5 weeks in a school. Purpose: To gain insight into the importance of health, safety and nutrition in the ECD phase.

Early Childhood Development (ECD) is a period of rapid and critical development - from conception to 8 years. Quality nurturing care during this period - adequate nutrition, good health care, protection, play and early education - is vital for children's physical, cognitive, linguistic and social-emotional development.
