Contact your local council to find out about applying for a school place once the school year has started (known as in-year applications). They can tell you which schools still have places and how to apply. Once your child has been offered a place, they will usually start school at the beginning of the following term.

If, having applied for a place, you do not manage to secure a school for your child (and you are living in the Essex County Council area* or have a confirmed move into the County), please contact School Admissions at Essex County Council on Tel: 0345 603 2200 for further support and advice.

When you apply for a school place we'll check your address matches your council tax records. If you recently moved to the city and haven't registered for council tax in Brighton & Hove, you'll need to send proof of your address. Please send a copy of one of the following: your driving licence.

Apply. Applications for the 2023 school year are now closed. If you wish to make a late application for a primary (Reception) school place, use our online application form. All applications received after 15 January 2023 will be treated as late and will only be processed after all on-time applications.

Your application should arrive by 31 January 2023 To meet this deadline, you will probably need to submit the application by mid-January - check the date with your school.

You can apply for a place at a state primary school online or by using your council's application form. You apply through your local council even if you're applying for schools in another council area.
