Invasive lymphangiography is considered the gold standard for diagnostic imaging of the central and peripheral lymphatic systems. Invasive lymphangiography provides high spatial resolution anatomic imaging and allows for hemodynamic flow evaluation along the lymphatic system.

Lymphoscintigraphy is still considered the gold standard imaging modality for diagnosing lymphedema.
