For courses taken on a letter graded basis, a grade of D- or better is considered passing and the student will receive credit for the course.

C - this is a grade that rests right in the middle. C is anywhere between 70% and 79% D - this is still a passing grade, and it's between 59% and 69% F - this is a failing grade.

The "D" grade is passing but may not be considered satisfactory for meeting all graduation requirements. Meet with a counselor to discuss the impact of D grades in your degree or student education plan.

Students who wish to repeat a course more than once must obtain the prior approval of their college dean at the time of registration. Degree credit for a course will be given only once, but the grade assigned at each enrollment will be permanently recorded on the student's transcript.

Students who wish to register at UCSB after having been absent for at least one quarter, lapsed, or withdrawn from a quarter must file a Request for Undergraduate Readmission or Reinstatement with the Office of the Registrar.

Deferring Admission Requests to defer are considered on a case by case basis. If granted a deferral, UCSB typically only defers admission for one quarter. Students who desire a full year deferral ("gap year") must reapply for admission for the term in which they wish to attend.
