The Ho-Chunk Nation government is comprised of four branches of government; executive, legislative, judicial and the general council. This government was set up to provide a communication tool to deal with Federal, State and local governments. It is based on our constitutions of 1963 and 1994.

The Ho-chunk were very friendly with the Menominee tribe. These two tribes frequently traded and sometime allied with each other in war. The Ho-chunk fought frequently with the Dakota tribe, sometimes with the help of the Menominee. But when they weren't at war, the Ho-chunk would trade with the Dakotas as well.
