A grade is a way of classifying metals. A metal grade is designated by numbers, letters, or a combination of both. A metal grade is usually determined by its chemical composition, its mechanical properties, or both. There are many different organizations that create various standards for a given metal grade.

You can compare steel grades by measuring the amount of carbon, additional alloys, and how the manufacturer processes them.

Similar grades of 45# steel are S45C (JIS) and 1045 (AISI).

EN16 is considered to be a viable alternative to other steel specifications containing chromium and nickel. EN16 (605M36T) also offers excellent ductility and is readily machinable. The equivalent British specification for EN16 is 605M36T.

Equivalent Grades: CNS SUM24L, JISSUM24L, ASTM 12L14, DIN 9SMnPb36.

Some of the European equivalents of C1018 steel would be DIN 1.0453, or DIN C16.

Grade G is roughly equivalent to Grade 8. Grade G nuts are used with Grade 8 bolts.

EN45 is suitable for the manufacture of springs and blades. It is wideley used for making automotive leaf springs and much favoured in the manufacture of historical blades. Closely related or equivalent grades include 250A53, 250A57 and 55SiMn7.
