Massachusetts prevailing wage overtime guidelines require that the contractor overtime wage rate equal or exceed 150% (time-and-a-half) of the cash wage per hour paid to a worker for standard time. For example, an Electrician receives pay of a base rate per hour of $40.00 paid in cash during a payroll.

How Are Prevailing Wages Determined? Employers can obtain this wage rate by submitting a request to the National Prevailing Wage Center (NPWC), or by accessing other legitimate sources of information such as the Online Wage Library, available for use in some programs.

Allowable benefits include: health insurance, pension plans, and holiday, vacation and sick plans. Workers who do not receive fringe benefits shall be compensated at the total prevailing-wage rate for all hours worked on the project.

Minnesota's prevailing wage law (Minnesota Statutes 177.41 through 177.44) requires employees working on state-funded construction projects covered by law be paid wage-rates comparable to wages paid for similar work in the area where the project is located.

All hours worked in excess of eight (8) hours per day or forty (40) hours per week shall be paid at a rate of one and one half (1 1/2) times the basic hourly rate. Note: Overtime pay after eight (8) hours on the project must be paid even if the worker does not exceed forty (40) hours in the work week.

Minnesota's prevailing wage law (Minnesota Statutes 177.41 through 177.44) requires employees working on state-funded construction projects or other projects covered by that law be paid wage-rates comparable to wages paid for similar work in the area where the project is located.

Taxes on overtime are not different than taxes on regular wages. You will calculate and withhold taxes the same way you do for regular wages. In fact, you will withhold taxes from the combined total of overtime and regular wages. You do not separately withhold taxes from these two types of compensation.
