Who Can Become a Visiting Scholar? Any scholar who has exceptional knowledge within their field of expertise may be eligible to become a visiting scholar, but requirements for each visiting scholar program will vary amongst different institutions and individual programs of study within those institutions.

To be a visiting researcher, the lowest degree you can have is a bachelor's degree. Associate degrees and master's degrees are also common in the industry. When it comes to the skills and expertise needed to be a successful visiting researcher, you need to have great communication skills and good observation skills.

Visiting Student Researchers PhD students from other universities who are at the dissertation stage of their degree and have completed all coursework are eligible to apply to be a Visiting Student Researcher (VSR) at Stanford.

Public applications are accepted. To participate in the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program, the applicant must have: a doctoral degree or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application. sufficient proficiency in the English language to carry out the project required.

A Visiting Scholar is generally a Professor of Law at another institution; a Visiting Researcher is generally someone who is working towards a graduate degree or doing postgraduate work at another institution.

Visiting scholars must be affiliated with a home university and be able to provide a letter confirming their status at the institution (e.g. employment or enrolment letter). Sponsored visiting scholars are required to submit proof of funding.

The purpose of the visit is to conduct collaborative research in a university facility; collaborate with university faculty on specific projects; and observe research, extension/outreach, instruction, or administration. Visiting scholars are not university employees.
