Every citizen with a valid Afghan identity card (Tazkira) can apply for and receive an Afghan passport, which is renewable every 5-10 years. The Afghan passport was introduced by Emir Abdur Rahman Khan in 1880. It recently became a biometric passport. Alam Gul Haqqani is the current head of the passport department.

You can print it and fill it out by hand, or use the Passport Application Wizard to complete the form online and print it out. While applications can be filled out online, they cannot be submitted online.

To apply for fresh or reissue of passport via e-Form Submission, users need to register on Passport Seva Portal. After registering, login to the Passport Seva Portal. Download the e-Form for fresh or reissue of Passport. Fill the downloaded e-Form and click the Validate & Save button.

For issuance of an Afghan passport, the applicant's presence is mandatory in the Consulate General of Afghanistanl. The Consulate General of Afghanistan in Los Angeles will NOT issue passports in absence of any applicant.

Processing Time The issuance of a new machine-readable Afghan passport normally takes 5 to 7 business days. It may take longer in exceptional circumstances.

Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the registered Login Id. Click "Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport" link. Fill in the required details in the form and submit. Click the "Pay and Schedule Appointment" link on the "View Saved/Submitted Applications" screen to schedule an appointment.
