A National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification is a certification in the medical field that proves an individual has skills in the NIH's Stroke Scale. This certification is administered by the American Heart Association (AHA).

The NIH stroke scale can be performed by EMS professionals, physicians, and nurses who are NIH stroke scale certified. For the purposes of this course, the investigator is referred to as a nurse.

Construct Validity Outcomes related to NIHSS scores at admission: Scores of <5; 80% of stroke survivors will be discharged to home. Score between 6 and 13 typically require acute inpatient rehabilitation. Scores of >14 frequently require long-term skilled care.
