The fiduciary of a domestic decedent's estate, trust, or bankruptcy estate files Form 1041 to report: The income, deductions, gains, losses, etc. of the estate or trust. The income that is either accumulated or held for future distribution or distributed currently to the beneficiaries.

The law imposes a 6.99 percent tax on partnerships, LLCs, and S corporations. The tax is imposed on either the entity's entire Connecticut-sourced taxable income or an alternative tax base, which reduces taxable income by the percentage of nonresident ownership.

Section 12-740-5 - Filing of fiduciary income tax return (a) A fiduciary of a trust or estate shall make and file the Connecticut fiduciary income tax return (Form CT-1041).

A Connecticut estate tax return must be filed for each decedent who was a Connecticut resident as well as non-residents who died owning real or tangible personal property located in Connecticut. A Connecticut estate tax return is required for every decedent's estate, whether or not tax is due.

The beneficiary, and not the trust or decedent's estate, pays income tax on their distributive share of income. Schedule K-1 (Form 1041) is used to notify the beneficiaries of the amounts to be included on their income tax returns.

The fiduciary adjustment is the net amount of modifications relating to trust or estate items of income, gain, loss or deduction, and is computed by the fiduciary on the Connecticut income tax return for the trust or estate.

Form 1041-T is the Allocation of Estimated Tax Payments to Beneficiaries under section 643(g). This election allows a trust (and certain decedent estates) to treat estimated payments as though they were made by a beneficiary or beneficiaries instead of having been paid by the fiduciary.
