The PPAT assessment consists of four tasks — Task 1 is formative and Tasks 2–4 are summative. For each task, you'll submit written commentary and artifacts. For Task 4, you'll also submit a video.

The maximum score for Task 2 is 12 points (the range is 3–12) and for Task 3 is 16 points (the range is 4–16). The score for Task 4 is doubled; therefore, the maximum score is 32 (the range is 8–32). For the overall PPAT, the maximum score is 60 (the range is 15–60).

The PPAT assessment measures how you apply content knowledge and teaching skills in the classroom, and evaluates your ability to impact student learning as it relates to the InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards (PDF).

Task Requirements. Task 3 Designing Instruction for Student Learning. In this task, you will demonstrate your ability to develop instruction, including the use of technology, to facilitate student learning. Standards and Indicators Measured in This Task.

The recommended passing score for the overall PPAT is 40 out of a possible 60 points. Procedural and internal sources of evidence support the reasonableness of the recommended passing scores.

Your task scores are the total of the step scores for each task. The score for Task 4 is multiplied by 2 to reflect the double weighting of the task. Tasks that aren't submitted receive a score of 0. Your overall assessment score is the total of your three task scores.

The Library of Examples is a collection of actual written responses submitted by PPAT test takers. The responses vary in writing style and presentation, but the most important factor is how well the evidence addresses the guiding prompts and rubrics.

Task 1 isn't scored by ETS. Your educator preparation program provides formative feedback to you on the response that you submit. Tasks 2, 3 and 4 are centrally scored by ETS-trained raters using rubrics that contain quantitative and qualitative elements of evidence.
