Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) was established by proclamation to ensure the safety and quality of products & health services. EFDA's mandates include the registration, licensing & inspection of health professionals, pharmaceuticals, food establishments, and health institutions.

Most of the drugs were prescribed by their generic name; Abay Mado (98%), Shimbit (98.5%), Ginbot Haya (97%), Shumabo (99%), Hane (98.6%) and Bahir Dar (98.8%).

Fast Track Registration: Antimalarial, antiretroviral, anti-tuberculosis medicines, maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) products, anti-cancer drugs, vaccines, Hepatitis, New drug, drugs for “orphan diseases” and drugs for emergent humanitarian aid shall have priority for evaluation and registration.

The NDCMP enables cooperation between government institutions and key stakeholders in the fields of drug use prevention, drug use disorders treatment, rehabilitation and social reintegration, drug supply reduction, and the overall coordination and research.
