"Do not resuscitate order for emergency services" means a document made pursuant to the EMS DNR ACT to prevent EMS personnel from employing resuscitative measures or any other medical process that would only extend the patient's suffering with no viable medical reason to perform the procedure.

A DNR order may be requested by the patient or from a representative authorized to make medical decisions on their behalf (i.e., surrogate or agent). Furthermore, the order may only be executed if a physician has determined that the patient suffers from a terminal condition.
