To become eligible for leaves employee should have been worked for 240days in the past preceeding year. and one day sick leave for every 30 days.. For the leave calculation, during a calendar year (Jan-Dec) for every 20 working days one leave is eligible.

An employee has the right to paid public holidays and leaves such as casual leave, sick leave, privilege leave and other leaves. For every 240 days of work, an employee is entitled to 12 days of annual leave. An adult worker may avail one earned leave every 20 days whereas its 15 days for a young worker.

Section 79 in the Factories Act, 1948 states that every worker who has worked for a period of 240 days or more in a factory during a calendar year shall be allowed to take leave with wage if they work for twenty days in a month. It is applied to an adult only.

Leave without pay means the person may or may not be on an authorized leave; however, the leave is in a non-paid status. Examples of leaves of absence without pay are Family Medical Leave, educational leave, disciplinary suspension, etc.

Purpose. Annual leave is a period of approved absence with pay from official duties. It is intended to allow the employee vacation, rest and recreation.

In ance with Article 18 (2) of the Act, employees are entitled to eight days of casual leave per year. If not used by the end of the fiscal year, all of these vacation days will lapse. In ance with Article 18 (5) of the new law, paid leave for employees can be accumulated up to 45 days.
