They allow drivers to go to and from shows or exhibitions. Drivers are restricted on the places they are permitted to go when their vehicle carries the tag of an antique license plate. Most states declare that they can only be used when driving to or from a show or exhibition.

To be considered a historic vehicle, the vehicle must be at least 25 years old and only used for exhibition and educational purposes by the owner. Historic plates can be purchased for $44.

No person may operate a vehicle with antique or classic registration plates for commercial purposes or for general daily transportation. Permitted use is limited to participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades and similar uses, and for occasional transportation.

Classic License Plate Where antique cars may only be used for certain special events and are excluded from advertisements, classic vehicles can be driven daily, with advertisements, and without additional restrictions. The only caveat is that the vehicle must be inspected and registered annually.

You may plate a vehicle that is at least 25 years old with an antique license plate (Year of Manufacture license plate) that was issued by the Indiana BMV in the model year of the vehicle.
