An assignment of mortgage documents the transfer of a mortgage from an original lender or borrower to another person or entity. Lenders regularly sell mortgages to other lenders. Less often, a borrower transfers the mortgage to someone else who assumes the mortgage.

Mortgages, as it should make sense, are recorded instruments, because they create a lien against the property. There MUST be a correctly executed Deed of Assignment to legally transfer a tenancy agreement during someone's lifetime. You MUST retain a copy of the Deed of Assignment.
