Canceling bids. Make it clear that all bids are final before the first bids are entered, and your silent auction software will enforce this by not allowing a bidder to remove their own bids.

Three Minute Rule This increases the length of an auction by three minutes if someone places a bid in the last three minutes of an auction. This is designed to allow every bidder a fair chance to increase their bid, should they wish to do so, removing the chance of them missing out at the last second.

Silent auctions Our take: In most cases, skip the retail values and pre-populate bid sheets with good, reasonable minimum bid amounts instead. You want minimum bids that are low enough to entice bidding, but not so low that you'd be disappointed if just one bidder was interested.

All bids and sales are final ? Make it clear that all bids and sales of auction items are binding, so no one tries to go back on a bid or return an item they've won.

Consider setting each item's minimum bid increase at approximately 10% of its starting bid amount. In contrast to the strategy for setting starting bid amounts, it often makes sense for higher-value items to have a minimum bid increase of less than 10% and lower-value items' minimum increase to be set at or above 10%.
